Designer Series: Alexandra Brown

1. How do you describe your design aesthetic?

My philosophy is to create spaces without the constraint of a single design aesthetic. I approach each project with the intention of reflecting the client’s lifestyle and personality throughout the space. In saying this, my personal design philosophy could be best described as modern eclectic intertwined with a love for the sensibility of mid-century design. Creating exceptional and beautiful spaces is about getting the small details right and being uncompromising on both form and function.

2. When did you realise design was your calling?

I have always loved beautiful and creative spaces and grew up surrounded by gorgeous interiors and fine art. A Degree in Fine Arts from Sydney University led me on my creative path, however it was the period living in Europe that exposed me most to the world of all things Interiors. I was then inspired to transition into the world of design and ultimately setting up my own design practice specialising in high-end residential design.

3. Elaborate on which of your projects/collaborations fills you with pride.

I would have to say most recently the Surry Hills Penthouse project. It was such a pleasure working with such trusting and wonderful clients. They were open to push the boundaries and trusted me to do so. We created an ultra-luxe interior with a cosmopolitan flavour that was both a home to entertain family and friends and a functional sanctuary from their very active lives. It was a beautiful result exceeding all their expectations.

4. Where do you find inspiration?

I find inspiration everywhere! Art, fashion, architecture, nature and once upon a time travel! I am inspired by beautiful things.

5. What is the next ‘big thing’?

I am not sure what the next best thing is, but I am sure to let you know when I come across it! The design world is forever evolving and changing. I think the key is just to keep your eyes wide open.
