To celebrate the launch of our new Everlasting Collection engagement ring designs, we interviewed our Head of Production, Rebekah Schembri, to share the process behind reimagining Fairfax & Roberts’ best-selling diamond engagement ring style.
Together with the workshop team, we wanted to extend the classic and timeless Everlasting Collection and create a design which truly heroes the main diamond. We found that a tapered diamond band created the illusion of a larger gemstone as the eye is led straight to the centre stone.
2. How did you develop this design?
We developed this design after numerous samples were made with the tapered detail. We tested several taper lengths, band widths, and diamond sizes to determine the correct graduation to give the desired visual effect whilst also remaining structurally sound to last a lifetime.
3. What is the benefit of a tapered band on an engagement ring?
The benefit of a tapered band on an engagement ring is that the smaller diamonds used in the shoulders give a very delicate look. It gives the look of a thin band whilst still supporting the hero gemstone. If you choose to have no diamonds along the shoulders of the band, the delicate effect is not compromised as highly polished metal also looks elegant and feminine.
4. What type of wedding band suits a tapered band engagement ring?
Any type of wedding ring suits a tapered band. A wide, plain band would give a vintage feel (think 1960s) whereas a very fine, diamond set wedding ring would give more of an antique and classic look. At the Fairfax & Roberts workshop, we create bespoke engagement rings that comfortably fit any parallel wedding ring, meaning there are countless combinations using various diamond shapes and sizes.
